OSOS History
Dr. Chris O'Connor began working on order set development in 2001 at Trillium Health Centre, in Mississauga, Ontario. After several years of iterative order set development a formal order set project was established at Trillium in 2004. This initiative was lead by Dr. Chris O'Connor and Kathy De Caire. Significant project milestones include:
- The order set project lead to dramatic improvements in patient care At Trillium Health Centre
- In 2006, Trillium's order set project was the recipient of Ontario's first Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Innovation Award for Quality and Safety
- In 2006, Open Source Order Sets was incorporated in Ontario
- In September 2007, Kathy DeCaire became OSOS's first full time employee
- In November 2007, Dr. O'Connor won the COACH (Canada's National Health Informatics Association) emerging leader in health informatics award
- In October 2008 OSOS was selected as one of the three top finalists for the CHITTA (Canadian Health Care Information Technology Trade Association) Healthcare Transformation Award
- Currently Open Source Order Sets is a web enabled collaborative network of over 90 hospitals in four provinces and one state working together to develop and implement order sets
